When you’re happy with your website or web application (web app), you can publish it to share it with the world. After you publish, your project goes live and anyone with the link can access it. The published version reflects the exact project state at the time you published.

Pre-publishing checklist

Use this checklist before you publish your project for the first time and whenever you publish updates to an existing project:

  • Review your project in preview mode and confirm that you are happy with its current state:
    • Review all pages for final text, links, and spelling.
    • Test key pages in desktop and mobile preview.
    • Submit each form once to confirm expected behavior.
    • Confirm images, icons, and other assets load correctly.
    • Verify navigation and primary call-to-action buttons.
  • If you already know the domain that you want to publish to, confirm that you have registered and configured it.
  • Confirm that your current plan allows publishing.

    Publishing requires a paid plan.

Publish your project

Whenever you are ready to publish your project, click Publish. Select the domain that you want to use and click Publish again to begin the publishing process.

  • If your hosting provider has enabled it and you need help choosing a domain, click Recommend domain to generate suggestions for your project.
  • If you have already registered a domain name but it does not appear in the list, click Add New Domain and enter your domain name.

When adding a new domain, make sure to enter the domain name correctly, including the top-level domain (for example, .com or .net). An incorrect domain name can cause publishing failures.

Publishing may require several minutes. After it is complete, you can view the live version by going to your domain directly or by clicking View Your Project.

Update a published project

After you publish your project, you can continue to make changes in Nova and publish updates to the same domain. Each time that you publish, the live project updates to reflect the current state of your project.

Revert to a previous version

If you want to revert to an earlier version of your project, you can edit a previous prompt to restore your project to its state at that point in the conversation. Then, click Publish to update the live project with the restored version.

Troubleshooting

Publishing fails or takes too long

If publishing fails or you suspect that the process has stalled, the issue is often a temporary service delay.

Wait a few minutes, and then click Publish again.

The domain does not resolve correctly

When a domain does not resolve after publishing, it usually indicates an issue with the domain itself or its DNS state.

  • Make certain that you have registered the domain and that it is active.
  • If you have multiple domains, make certain that you published to the correct domain.
  • If you added a new domain, verify that you entered the domain name correctly.
  • If you or your hosting provider recently made DNS changes, wait for DNS propagation (up to 48 hours) and test again.

Assets are missing from the live project

Missing images or other assets usually indicate broken filepaths, removed uploads, or that you initiated publication before all of Nova’s updates were ready.

Open the project in preview and confirm that the uploaded assets still exist in the project. If assets are missing in the preview, fix any broken paths and reupload or regenerate any missing files. Then, click Publish again.

Published updates are not visible

If your updates don’t appear after publishing, your browser may have cached the page or loaded an earlier published state. Refresh the page, or test the same URL in a private or incognito window.

If the issue persists, make certain that you published the project to the correct domain and that the publishing process completed successfully. Publishing can require several minutes for complex projects.
